2023 - 2025: Intl. Manganese Institute

In 2023, I was elected for a two-year term as a Vice Chairman of the new High-Purity Manganese Committee of the International Manganese Institute in Paris. My work contributed to a better understanding of manganese use in rechargeable battreies for electric vehicles (EVs) and stationary storage applications (ESS) in the IMnI research. I also worked on analysis of IMnI statitics relating to Mn use in batteries and general promotion of manganese for these applications.

2018 - 2024: Battery Metals at CPM Group

During these six years (2018-2024) I worked for the New York-based CPM Group covering some minority and battery metals. I was the Head of CPM’s Manganese Pracitice and Molybdenum Practice and I regularly published market analyses for these metals. Many listed clients used these reports for their Pre-Feasibility or Bankable Feasibility Studies. In the case of manganese, my work focused on the use of this metal in batteries. 2014 - Present: Marketeye.org Boutique

Since the summer of 2014 I have been providing consultancy services under my bespoke research boutiqe brand Marketeye.org . While remaining faithful to the natural resources sector, I have branched out to management consultancy in a wider field. Assignments included the research on mine tailings, running residential mining courses for Euromoney, and market research on battery metals (manganese and molybdenum in particular).

2009-2014: Exploring for Metals in Poland

This 5-year period covers two employments: 2009-2011 as a Director of Operations, Europe (Board position) with Strzelecki Metals Ltd listed in Sydney (ASX), and 2011-2014 with the New York City based Electrum Group (private equity) as a Senior Adviser. In both cases my work concentrated on all aspects of mineral exploration in Poland: applying for mineral concessons, dealing with government departments; preparing exploration programs and supervising day-to-day operations of two local companies there. I was also involved in fundraisng in Australia and takeover negotiations.

2005-2009: Preparing to build a Zn/Pb mine

For over 4 years I had been the Chief Operating Officer (Board position) of Angus & Ross plc (A&R), a London-listed (AIM) mineral exploration junior. The company had exploration properties on 5 continents, but my main focus was on Greenland, where A&R was preparing to re-open the legendary Black Angel zinc-lead mine. Apart from the day-to-day running of the company, numerous fundraisings, supervising exploration programs, and dealing with the Government of Greenland I was closely involved in preparation of a Bankable Feasibility Study for the project. I was also involved in A&R’s gold exploration JV in China.

2002-2004: Selling Technical Services

In 2002, my colleague Richard Thompson and I opened and ran the London office of the US/Canadian technical consultancy Norwest Corpoartion Ltd . The company offered technical consultancy services to the metal and coal mining sectors, oil sands and oil shale sector, governments etc. I was a Director of the London Office performing a sales role and looking after the accounts of the company.

1999-2002: Analyst, Lecturer, Journalist

During this 3.5-year period I worked as a freelance consultant within the metals and mining sector. My assignments came from clients like the World Bank, US Government (DoE), McKinsey & Co, major mining equipment manufacturers, the Mining Journal Research Services, United Nations, Raw Materials Group, World Gold Council, CRU and others. I was the Chairman and (later) Management Committee member of the Association of Mining Analysts , I wrote country reviews for the Mining Journal, and I lectured on commodity trading courses run by Euromoney. I also developed a commodity hedging software for a metal trading client and wrote a book on environmentally and socially responsible mining published by the United Nations (a free PDF download is available through this link ).

1992-1998: Trading Cathodes & LME Futures

For over 6 years I had worked for the London office of a large Polish copper and silver producer KGHM Polish Copper . I started as a Copper Trader progressing to the Managing Director of the London operation. During that time I acquired an intimate knowledge of hedging with futures on the London Metal Exchange (1000s of positions) as well as physical commodity trading of copper, silver & gold and metal concentrates. I was in charge of £600m+ turnover company and trained many junior traders.

1987-1992: Supplying UK industry with ball

In 1987 I was seconded by Warsaw-based import-export company IMPEXMETAL to take up a Sales Manager position in London. I was supplying ball bearings and other steel products to UK and Irish clients including major automotive and gricultural machinery manufacturers. This position gave me a good exposure to the precsion engineering sector.

Between 1978 and 1987 I worked in Poland, my coutry of birth. As a Sub- Department Manger I was in charge of imports of over 13,000 different lines of ball bearings and similar products required by the Polish industry.
